Jacob made a clarification in the E2 log that's worth preserving :

Vivian Sporepress: and a tech point, "The dual function of encryption and signing from a single key" - gpg at least uses separate keys for those functions (encryption subkey), not without cause - signing means sharing something derived from the private key, thus in principle leaking some information about it, while encryption leaks at worst something about the encrypted text but not the key since it's the public side involved. I don't think the argument is any worse for this, since from the usage standpoint it functions as a single overall key set associated with that person having those functions.

I've edited the article to clarify this sentence : s/it becomes economical to engage in deals with people that are worth less than the value of their reputation/it becomes economical to engage in deals with people where the value of the deal is worth less than the value of their reputation/

@Diana Coman, in my mind, gaming is a powerful bridge, as at least on the surface it can be seen as a low pressure, low stakes entry point for learning.

That Zimmerman quote from 1992 is food for a lot of thought really. Given that the vision it describes has been entirely possible and available for all this time (and it's decades, not even mere years) but nevertheless still failed to quite happen on any significant scale, there seems to be at least some significant gap between his everyone and the current "everyone" as such, perhaps even widening all this time.

Maybe some bridging is possible, maybe the widening went far enough and it will start turning around, maybe it will still take first all the pain of a nearly full destruction of meaning through a deluge of AI-generated nonsense and deep fakes to provide the incentive for it (or for an effective regrinding of it) or maybe something else entirely will swing this around but so far at least it still seems that the actual everyone will only ever take the next step of least possible resistance, nothing else.

So perhaps what needs to be accrued is momentum for the available but not yet actualized possibility of preserving individuality and developing interaction between human persona even in this online space and even alongside the much more data-powerful AI/bots/software of all sorts. With the caveat that it's not even clear if and for how long it still remains at all possible, that is.

On the bright side, it only really takes a few well connected nodes of effective individuals to gain a lot of momentum and the effects only compound with such connections.
